David Mills – Curriculum Leader ADT
David qualified as a teacher from Sheffield Hallam University in 2005. His first role was at a school in Dewsbury teaching Technology. In this time he learned a variety of skills across the different Technology disciplines.
In January 2008 David started working at Moor End Technology College as it was called back then. For 2 years he taught Resistant Materials at KS4 and Graphics at KS3. After 2 years Graphic Products was introduced as a KS4 subject and quickly became the most popular subject in school, according to a pupil/parent survey.
Graphics ran for 7 years under the Design Technology umbrella before changing to Graphic Communication in 2017.
During his time at the school he has been a De Bono Ambassador alongside 11 other members of staff and empowered students and staff a like with the thinking tools and related pedagogy. After 5 years David became Assistant Curriculum Leader for Design and Technology. He did this job for 2 years before becoming the Head of Art, Design and Technology, incorporating Art in to the department 4 years ago.
Prior to David becoming a teacher, he was keen to become a Graphic Designer, working in animation or website design. The journey to become a teacher started late on in his Degree when an opportunity to spend some time in a school came available. This prompted David into looking at a career in teaching.
While studying for his degree, David had a number of part time jobs which included glass collecting, working at a discount shop called “Just the Job” and eventually a part time job at Argos. All of these roles have given him valuable experience which he still uses now.
