Academy Trustees

Mrs Diane Chapman (Chair) 

Mrs Diane Chapman

Diane brings to the board a wide ranging experience of working voluntarily in the local community, having chaired two boards of trustees in the homeless and sexual abuse sectors. She presently volunteers as a senior mediator for a large not for profit organization and as an independent visitor for Kirklees Child services. She is the Chair of Governors at Moor End Academy. She is responsible for the Kirklees Registration service and front facing customer service, having worked at a senior manager level within local government for 15 years.

Mr Tony Allison 

Mr Tony Allison

Tony has been a Member and Director of Moor End Multi Academies Trust since its inception and is now Chair of the Board of Directors.  Previously he was a Governor and Vice Chair on the Governing Body of Moor End Academy for many years. He has chaired a variety of its committees and was involved with the Academy through two outstanding Ofsted inspections. He brings to the Board expertise as a training and development officer for an international engineering company. He is passionate about lifelong learning and the regeneration of local communities.

Mrs Rehna Khan 

Mrs Rehna Khan

Rehna is a consultant ophthalmologist at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust. She brings to the board expertise from the NHS, where she leads the diabetic retinopathy service, and Chairs the Diabetic Project Board. She is also involved in postgraduate medical education as an educational supervisor to junior doctors and as an honorary lecturer at Bradford University. In addition she now undertakes a voluntary role with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She is dedicated to Moor End Academy as a former student who discovered her passion for education in the Class of 1997.

Ms Jane Acklam OBE – Chief Executive Officer

Ms Jane Acklam OBE

Jane is the CEO of Moor End Multi Academy Trust. She has 13 years’ experience of Headship in the 11-16 age range. Jane has led Moor End Academy through two ‘Outstanding’ inspections and has been involved in School to School Support since 2009. Her focus has been on improving the life chances of students, through raising achievement and the effectiveness of leaders. She became a National Leader of Education (NLE) in 2011 and has utilised the skills and expertise of Moor End staff in their National Support School roles. Jane has won national awards for her commitment to excellence in the professional development of teachers, and has been awarded a Teaching Award.

Jane holds, and is extremely passionate about, the belief that high quality educational experiences are a fundamental right to the children of our society. She believes that equality is at the heart of the schools system and has a part to play in delivering a world class state system. She is convinced that the Academies’ programme can deliver this by drawing upon her experience and skills as a current practitioner.

Mrs Roz Batley – Chief Finance Officer/Company Secretary

Mrs Roz Batley

Roz has many years’ experience of school leadership, with particular emphasis on finance and business management in the secondary sector. She has experience of Academy conversion, and is designated as a Specialist Leader of Education. She has extensive experience of working on governing bodies in both secondary and primary education and was the chair of a primary governing body in the past.  She is currently on the Governing Body of Orchard Primary Academy. 

Mr Richard Gilliland

Mr Richard Gilliland

Appointed to the Trust in June 2015, Richard is an ex-Moor End High School pupil, attending in the mid-1980s. Having extensive experience at senior level within the heavy vehicle and logistic support arena with both worldwide and local organisations, Richard was appointed for his expertise in both corporate and strategic planning, along with his understanding and experience in financial management, senior-level communications and detailed Health and Safety knowledge.

Richard currently holds a directorship role within a national but family-owned company based in Manchester.

He is committed to bringing his knowledge, experience and expertise to the Moor End Trust team.

Mr Phil Wheeliker

Mr Phil Wheeliker

A former RAF Officer with active service experience, on leaving the military Phil spent many years in industry as a business manager acquiring senior operational experience in logistics management, learning and development and in business turnaround and transformation. He undertook advanced study in business administration and business psychology gaining his MBA and an MA. In recent years he added an MPhil in clinical psychotherapy to his repertoire and is now running a thriving international business specialising in corporate stress and performance management; he is currently coaching executives of the Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation to cope better with mounting work pressures.
